About Me…
Hi there, hello! To be completely honest, I’m still feeling a little shy and uncertain on how to navigate this process which is why I am keeping my identity hidden for the time being. In the mean time, you may call me BBz (pronouns are she/her/ella). I am a registered associate marriage and family therapist, and although I’m trying to be as authentic and genuine to sharing this process with you; at the same time, I am navigating the ethical guidelines of a beginner clinician. I thank you for your understanding and invite you to join me on this journey of vulnerability to encourage others to feel the feelz not matter how uncomfortable they are.
Who Am I?
BITTER
The Ugly
I am bitter, and by that I mean I have complex trauma that triggers symptoms of depression and a lot, A LOT of anger. My anger is rooted in generational trauma, collective pain, and ongoing suffering for people of color. I am a therapist who strongly believes majority (if not all) DSM diagnosis and mental health disorders are a direct effect of living under capitalism, greed, and racism. Although I always knew I was angry and depressed, I stepped into my bitterness in 2018 after graduating undergrad and let go of the shame these feelings caused me. I give a shout out to Ruben and Cassandra, hosts of Bitter Brown Femmes podcast, for fostering this empowerment from my pain.
BROWN
The Culture
I was born in Michoacan, Mexico and immigrated to the united states when I was 10 years old. Although Chicanx culture has taught me so much, it’s difficult to identify with it as I am very much still an immigrant with parents who live in the motherland. I was raised with a classist mindset and attended Catholic school while back home. Immigration and poverty in the United States quickly humbled me and as the youngest sister of 3, they kept me humble too (through “tough love” they call it). Spanish is my first language and I’m hopeful you’ll see some blogs in Spanish for you to share with your tías and señora friends. Mental health was never addressed in my culture and with time you will learn how it has become so personal to me that it influenced my career.
ZILLENIAL
The Trendy
I am a zillenial, too old to create trendy edited tik toks but too young to wear heels to the club. As a zillenial therapist, it’s important to me that the psychology and counseling fields changes through a decolonized practice. This includes a mind-body connection, and accessibility to re-imagine what mental health looks like for Queer, Trans People of Color in the era of technology. I am passionate about healthcare, memes, gossip, reality TV and I’m obsessed with my dog. I don’t get a lot of old TV references because I probably only watched them in Spanish. I have dark humor, and enjoy avocado toasts for breakfast. I am sadly lactose intolerant but you will never stop me from eating cheese.
What you will find in this blog…
A whole lot of FEELINGS and VULNERABILITY. This blog is how I step into feelings of shame in order to let them pass. It’s where I’ll share my experiences with feeling all the feelings, in hope that someone relates, finds it useful, joins me and that we form community. Black, Brown, Indigenous and Queer Trans people of color stories will be prioritized.
Along with the stories, you will also find:
- Memes
- Resources
- Tips on feeling the feels
- Community
- Affirmations
- Book recommendations
And may this blog go beyond what our hopes and dreams can imagine.
Want to go through this process together?
Don’t miss a blog post and help us stay connected. I’d love the opportunity to create an online space that holds community through all these comfortable and uncomfortable feelings.
